- I change my mind so much I need two boyfriends and a girlfriend.
- Why can’t everyone just be naked? That’s what I love about being the artist.
- I was extreme… from skateboarder to hip-hopper to rave child to lead singer of a rock band - I did it all, and all at the same time.
- Some people think I’m a angry girl, a boy killer, or just plain confused by me.
- [On Carey’s romantic trait] He sends me flowers at random intervals to my hotel rooms, always with really sweet notes. One time I had this really bad dream that he cheated on me, and I woke up really pissed off with him. He sent me flowers and said he’d never cheat on me in my dreams again. He is so cute. He thinks I’m weird, but he likes that, and I make him laugh, so it works well.
- About the album, ‘I’m not Dead’ It’s about being alive and feisty and not sitting down and shutting up even though people would like you to.
- [After been asked what was the crummiest wedding gift she recieved] I didn’t recieve an RSVP from half my family, and they didn’t show up.
- [On impersonating Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan & the Olsen twins in “Stupid Girls“] I have no idea what their reactions are to the video. I haven’t heard anything yet, but to be honest, I don’t really care. I would like to clarify that I do actually really like the Olsens. They are college girls, CEOs of their own companies - really smart girls. I’m attacking the general idea more than the people. I just used those people to explain what I meant.
- I have never really encountered anybody that was rude to me. Well, not ot my face anyway. Sometimes you might get the odd person in an entourage trying to show off, which does amuse me, but I don’t really find them offensive because I don’t really care. I’ve been really lucky because I’ve met some incredible people, like Steven Tyler and Linda Perry - all the people that I’ve worked with. I kind of sort through the bullshit and get straight to it.
- My dad raised me with some good advice: ‘Always tell the truth. Always shoot from the hip. You might not have many friends, but you’ll never have enemies, because people will always know where you’re coming from.
- [On her fears] Spiders and sharks. Jaws screwed me for life, which is a real shame because I love the ocean. I don’t want to be eaten by a shark. It affected me so much I didn’t want to swim in swimming pools at night because I was convinced a shark had got in and was after me. Spiders that have the hairy bodies and legs - eurgh, even telling you about it is freaking me out! I don’t know if I’m as tough as I seem, to me, I’m just being me.
- It’s been especially hard for [my parents] hearing me write about things they never knew about… My mom’s like, ‘Were you really that angry? Was I really that in denial? Was I really that bad a parent?’ ‘No, Mom - you were great. You didn’t try to run me over with your car. I made it up.’
- [On her previous job at Pizza Hut] I ate half the pizzas before they hit the table, and then I was fired.
- People are always so surprised when they meet me. Firstly, that I’m ’so tiny’, and secondly that I’m ’so sweet’. They seem surprised that they’re not scared of me. The aggressive side of me comes across in my music, but I’m just a sweet girl.
- I decided at 15 that I didn’t want to be one of those artists that gets up and sings love songs they don’t mean. I decided that I was going to be me to the fullest extent, that my songs were going to reflect relationships I’ve had, things I’ve been through, and even the stuff I’m embarrassed about.
- There’s a little traditional screaming woman trying to claw her way out of my belly button.
- [When asked about the secrets to being a newlywed] The only difference is you have to fight nicer, because you’re committed.
